I loved that sweater.
Everything about it. Perfect shade of blue, hint of green. And how it smelled of her.
I recently read how the masculine animal is more attracted and aroused by the natural scent of a woman* (* dispense with the Al Pacino jokes, you heathens, and do your worst) than by contrived perfume manipulation.
And scent is the most unexpected and dominant characteristic of my memory of her.
I could go on ad nauseum. For it is so easy to focus on the symbol rather than the woman. Symbols conveniently quantify all-consuming emotion into tolerable allotment. Symbols define as required, do not require compromise, nor do they force confrontation.
Symbols enable others to con us into things we do not need and can ill afford.
I miss her, my heart aches, and rarely does a day go by where I manage to escape unreminded.
It has been years gone by. I regret how that sweater - amongst her other possessions - had been left behind in long forgotten dresser in closed room and chapter.
And yet to cling to it would be to cling to a symbol, and not the breasts and the woman that it once contained.
Perhaps I need to get out more.

Who is this woman you speak of?
yes, who, pray tell...
also, if it's of any help to you
i like to shop for womens clothing at the salvation army and other thrift stores -- all of their apparel comes pre-scented(!)
(no thanks necessary)
/t.
D'oh! You both discovered this new installment for Puglypaloosa BEFORE I intended to "officially" post it! Well done, early birds!
***
Lamby - She was once a true love of mine.
;-)
***
/t. - I'm not sure that is the same type of scent that I remember. In your case, I might prefer the perfume.

Wait ... I just realized the full gravity of /t.'s: "i like to shop for womens clothing" statement.
I need some time to assess ...
i thought
your response
was a bit light, pug...
/t.
/t. - Agreed. Seriously, I loved your comment! And it deserves better. Let me sleep on a wittier reply.
Anyhoo, I do hope everyone likes this initial "attraction" in the Puglypaloosa "Love Pavillion".
how many how's ... and let me guess, she was also blond and blue eyed? yes?
but all kidding aside..
smell does evoke powerful memories. for years the lining of my brother's leather jacket smelled of his particular odor that just meant brother to me, but apparently brought forth lusty thoughts in many a woman. recently i came across it in the back of a closet. i smelled it .. but the brother odor was gone.
at least the symbol remains...
i will not part with it.
It's hard to let love go.
Foam - That will teach me to click "Save" instead of the "Publish" button.
:-(
I suppose it's the closest thing to a bootleg tape.
Now you and a select few have a secret or two on me, over the Johnny-Come-Latelys.
However there is now hope that you may have lusty thoughts when you see ME in my little leather jacket.
Lamby - How true. But sometimes when a door is closed, a window to a precarious ledge is opened. Or something like that.
Wow...
I still have my Ma's favorite skirt. Pretty tough material..kind'a OD green (the Old Man was a lifer in the AF) but, I always thought I'de stretch it onto a canvas and paint something on it.
And then, here it is, 23 years later...and it's still up in my dresser.
y'know...in this group, it's probably a good thing to mention, I don't wear it.
Oh Puggles my sweet, you have shown us another side of your personality, a more gentle, caring side ... it is good to open up and express one's feelings.
I am sorry that your heart aches my sweet and that you have lost your true love.
Scent is a powerful reminder that stays with us and evokes many memories of the past and people we loved...the natural scent also draws us to the people with whom we might form a romantic attachment.
You will find love again my sweet, another girl will come into your life whom you will come to love just as much and happiness will not elude you any more.
Your writing is perfection and I cannot understand why you have not been awarded the Pulitzer prize for literature or journalism. xoxo ♡
it's okay. i was writing a substitute lesson plan when i took a break on google reader and came across what i knew was a draft. i decided to wait and when i came back to comment i realized by your answers that you were still not done. don't worry, you are still as much of an enigma as ever. and, dear me, i won't know what to do should you actually don a little leather jacket. a pug in leather just might make me swoon..
Perhaps my sweet you do need to get out more, I think you would look rather fetching in your leather jacket...just the thought of it is making Foamy swoon already...me too.
I don't mean to be cruel dear one but that lady in the sweater does look rather masculine, was she perhaps an athletic college girl or did you decide to model the sweater for us? xoxo ♡
Boneman - Whew! Well THAT sure is a relief! And just to prove that I believe you, I shall indeed stay at your motel once I've embezzled funds from my employer and go on the lam.

Dianne - I did? Geez, how did that happen? It must have been the excessive Kahluha and Nyquil talking. Well at least I did it in front of a loving and supportive mob. One that would never poke fun or seek to exploit my revelations in any way.
***
Foam - I don't mean to add fuel to your fiery temptation, but a couple of the sounds that I really like: are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike (I wanted you to know, but in retrospect I should have left that off of my eHarmony profile).
***
Dianne - Funny you should mention getting out more. I've been working up to that by wearing my leather jacket around the house, and repeatedly watching "The Road Warrior".
Masculine, you say? Well that certainly explains the unexpected "placement of speedbumps on the pavement" so to speak. Perhaps I need to go off-road altogether and invest in a dirt bike.
Lol, I don't know how to respond to your reply to me ... since you are so macho, maybe a dirt bike might be a more comfortable alternative.
I think you might be too sexy for that leather jacket, my sweet. :)
xoxoxoxoxo ♡
love the song! even though the volume on my computer was unwittingly turned way up high so that it just about knocked me outta bed.
Just popping over to say 'Hi' my sweet,I hope you are well ... it seems like such an age since I last heard from you. xoxo ♡
Dianne - That's why I either wear English Leather, or nothing at all.
***
Foam - Why is it so HARD to admit it was my post and not the music that knocked you out of bed?
***
Dianne - I can't complain. "The powers that be" won't allow it. And of course being a Renaissance Pug keeps me quite busy.
Darn it Pug, I shall lose sleep over this post. Worrying tha some ultimately rejected passion from the past may be surrepticiously sniffing my lost, forgotten or discarded garments of yesteryear.
Oh how I pray that my red stiletto shoe has not been enshrined by the ultimately impotent wouldhavebeen who was the last person I saw before its mysterious disappearance ....
Nice dispatch and this mail helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you as your information.
Cathy - If you truly are the wild woman that I think you are, then I would be more concerned about strangers finding your discarded items in various lovers' lanes.
In fact, your fetching looks and devious, cunning demeanor quite remind me of a past flame. So I cannot help but wonder if you have globe-hopped and changed hair color in a vain attempt to distance and mask your feelings for yours truly.
I suppose there is no way to tell for sure, unless you send a few select garments for comparison to "control samples".
Please do not forsake my humble request, for the pain shall be not unlike that of a stiletto through my heart.
Anonymous - This comment aided and abetted my esteem intercoursed with that of said colleagues. Thank you too in conjuction for your fragrant worship.
:)
Is anonymous trying to convince me to send you garments?
Alas I cannot comply with your request as I have just given all the clothes I am not using to a Georgian refugee who is currently acting as my father in law's housekeeper. Except of course my underwear, nobody wears second hand undies, Do they?
Cathy - No, they certainly do not. That is why you must send them to me at once for secure disposal.
Yes, I think you do perhaps need to get out more. Still, there's nothing wrong with the concept of a "security sweater." If it comforts you, by all means pull it out of the drawer on occasion, sniff it, fondle it, rest your little head on it. If it starts getting really rank, there are plenty of other sweaters out there. Just avoid angora; that'll make little Pugs sneeze.
you haven't lost your touch Pugsly!
HUGS!!
I love reading the comments and your replies here, you are so cute my sweet. ♡
Have you had any replies from your 'Alex'?
I haven't heard from mine, I think I have either fallen from grace or have been replaced ... oh well, life goes on. xoxo ♡
Serena - Summer is on its way, so it may be strictly bikinis for me from here on out.
***
Leelee - Thanks! Good to see you again. Hugs!
***
Dianne - I had one reply from Mr. Trebek, but it was incorrectly stated in the form of a question, so I disqualified it.
PUG!
Hey! By gosh you won an award (http://gatorfeedingtips.blogspot.com/) and, it's a cool picture of Humphrey Bogart!
Well c'mon by and snatch it up inbetween trying on clothes...
Or you can send Black Bart.
New cat in the house, here. Named him Blackjack. What a carouser at night. Always snatching up a bottle of wine and wandering over to the neighbor's house for some...cat.
You'll never guess what color the cat is.
Black?
Dang! How'de you guess that so easily?
Boneman - An award? Really? Why this is even better than that time a won a free liver from Jack Daniels for finishing first in his little contest!
Ditto for the new lung from the Lucky Strikes people.
Say hi to Blackjack. Try to keep him out of the cathouses.
